Abstract Paintings
I seek to capture individual elements of nature, everyday surroundings, or emotion in an abstract form. My watercolor and mixed media pieces explore line, texture, and color. Often, I am inspired by the mundane images that pass by, be it power lines on a long drive, overpasses, or rocks beaten by wave and wind. We experience emotion daily, not realizing when some of those emotions are triggered by the forms and images around us. I want to reduce what I see and feel to intersecting lines and colors that also evoke emotion, even if I am the only one for which it does.
Unable to Compartmentalize
This series explores my inability to compartmentalize the areas of my life. I wrestle with my desire for control by choosing a medium that flows just out of my control. I intended to better compartmentalize my life and focus on the moment at hand. However, when I step back and look at these paintings, I realize that the mess of our lives is a work of art in itself.
Seasons of Life
These painting shows how moments of life march into seasons. Events, like staccato notes, announce a new era. Our lives have a song to play out. The high notes and low notes are the melody, and seasons of life keep time.
